What this worksheet covers
- Worksheet
- 'More' Word Problems
The word turns into more. Even where more is written, a subtraction may be wanted, so the word by itself never fixes the equation. Reading the problem and settling which of the two numbers is being asked for has to come before the equation is built.
Start by deciding whether the number wanted lies on the side described as more. If it does, add; if it is the other side, subtract. Skip that order and the equation goes down before the sentence has been read to the end, and both kinds of situation get pushed through one and the same calculation.
Difference Word Problems closes with these two lessons. Together with 'Fewer' Word Problems, the practice of settling an equation from the question sentence rather than from a single word is complete, and the next unit moves on to positions in a line.
