What this worksheet covers
- Worksheet
- Finding the Total
The size of the whole line is what these word problems want. From Front and Back builds it from two places, one counted from each end, while From the Line and the End builds it from one person's place together with how many stand behind them before the line runs out.
Using the two numbers of From Front and Back means counting the same person from both ends, so one has to come off the sum. From the Line and the End needs no such step: add the place to the distance and the last number is the size of the line itself.
This is the final lesson of Order and Position Word Problems. As far as Finding the Number of People in Between only parts of the line were in view, and here the eye goes back to the whole of it. The next unit brings questions that run a situation backwards.
