- Multiple and Difference/Sum Word Problems
The clues are a relation saying one amount is so many times the other, together with either the difference or the total of the two, in these word problems. There is a shape writing only the answer, a shape with an expression box that answers both amounts, and a shape finding one from the total, and the amount asked for is sometimes the larger and sometimes the smaller.

What comes out first is always the smaller amount. The hand stops there, and even where the larger is wanted the smaller figure stays in the answer box. Multiply the figure found by the number of times given in the writing to get the other amount, then check whether their difference or total returns to the figure in the writing.
The figure set as a box has grown here into two amounts tied by a multiple. In Excess and Shortage Problems the clue turns from a relation between two amounts into the leftover and the shortfall when the same things are handed out in two ways.
