Mixed Operations with Fractions and Decimals Review
4Calculation
What this worksheet covers
Grade 6 (Elementary School) / Mixed Operations with Fractions and Decimals
Expressions mixing fractions and decimals are worked one operation at a time, in the order the rules require. The unit starts with four-operation work on fractions Without Parentheses and With Parentheses, moves to Multiplying and Dividing Three Fractions, and covers multiplication and mixed multiplication and division solved by rewriting the decimals as fractions.
Multiplying a decimal such as 0.25 as it stands, without turning it into a fraction, leaves the work stuck with nothing to simplify. Handling a run of multiplications and divisions by taking the later multiplication first instead of working from the left is also standard, and checking whether the number right after the ÷ ended up in the denominator of the answer catches it.
Decimals join the study of fractions here, now that both multiplication and division are settled, and the two operations combine inside a single expression. Ratio and Its Uses, which deals with ratios afterward, calls on this same sense of moving between forms when a ratio written in fractions or decimals has to be rewritten in whole numbers.
