Choose the characters and format for your kanji worksheet

I've updated the page for building your own kanji worksheet. You now choose a format, such as practice with three characters or a reading-only test, then find the characters and check the questions.

I want to keep both options: working through the ready-made worksheets in order, and choosing just the characters your child wants to practise now. This update focuses on choosing your own.

Start with practice or a test

Practice sheets let you choose two, three or six characters. Tests come in three formats: writing and reading, writing only, or reading only. Choosing 8–24 characters makes a 24-question test. Each format card also includes a small preview of the layout.

You can choose reading only to check readings, or a practice sheet to work on writing. Tests have 24 questions, so if you want to start with fewer characters, choose a practice sheet.

Search by character, reading or radical

Entering the Japanese word for school (学校) finds its two characters (学 and 校). Entering the reading kō (こう) finds characters with that reading. You can also search by a radical name, such as kihen (きへん), the tree radical on the left. Search results include characters from other grades as well as the grade you selected.

In the list, you can switch grades or filter by radical. When the characters are in textbook order, you can select a range together. Your selected characters stay at the bottom of the screen, so you can review the combination while looking for others.

Check the questions and answers before printing

After choosing the characters, press the button to build the worksheet. A preview of the questions appears. If you want to replace one question, press it to change just that question. Once you're happy with the content, you can download separate PDFs for the questions and answers.

I've also changed the ready-made worksheet pages to put the sheet preview at the centre of the layout. The answer button opens a preview of the answer sheet too. I want you to be able to check whether this is the right sheet for today before printing it.
