Comparing Area worksheets for Grade 1 (Elementary School)

Two figures drawn on grid paper are compared by counting the shaded squares. The grid grows from 4×5 Grid to 5×6 Grid and then 6×7 Grid, and children grasp that figures of different shapes can still be compared as long as you count how many squares of the same size each one covers.

One error is judging by height or width alone and calling the long thin figure the larger one, without counting squares at all. While counting, children who start anywhere and wander count some squares twice, and the two figures then add up to more than the whole grid.
