Three containers are put in order from the most to the least. Measuring the middle one against each of the other two in turn is enough to fix the whole order. Everything is read off pictures, and neither a scale nor a figure appears.

What settles each pair changes from pair to pair, and that is where the difficulty lies. Matching water levels put the decision on the width of the container, while matching containers put it on the height of the water. Forcing a single rule through all three leaves the middle container in the wrong place.
Comparing Capacity pauses here at its second lesson. The stance built through length and capacity, that things have to be lined up before they can be measured against each other, is carried along as the work returns to numbers in Addition and Subtraction up to 20.
