Comparing Capacity worksheets for Grade 1 (Elementary School)
What this unit covers
Capacity is compared in two ways: Comparing Directly, and Comparing by Pouring the contents into another container. Ordering by Capacity lines up three or more containers from most to least, and counting how many cupfuls each one holds lets containers of different shapes be compared.
The most frequent error is calling a tall narrow container the bigger one simply because the water level is high. In Comparing by Pouring, the requirement that the cups be identical gets dropped, so children compare cupfuls even when the cups themselves are different sizes.
