- Expressing a Percentage
Three ways of expressing, decimal, percent, and wari, bu and rin, are moved among in all six directions. One way of expressing is shown to the left of an arrow and the restated figure goes into the box on the right, and in the box for a decimal answer a 0. is printed in advance, while the box for wari, bu and rin carries wari, bu and rin against the separate places.

The box for a decimal answer has 0. printed and only what follows gets written. For a one-digit percent such as 5%, writing 5 after it gives 0.5, ten times the correct 0.05. The box for wari, bu and rin works the same way, with wari at the first decimal place, bu at the second and rin at the third.
From Finding the Percentage the work goes beyond restating into word problems that calculate the percentage itself from two quantities. Being able to move freely among the three ways of expressing is what this lesson aims at.
