The numbers reach into the thousands. As far as 4 Carries (Column Calculation) is covered, so items appear where the sending runs from the right-hand end to the left-hand end. The same range is gone round in both the vertical and the horizontal form, and Fill in the Blank works back from the answer to the number in the box.

The clue when checking is where the sent 1 gets written, which is above the column one to the left of the one that overflowed. Slide that to the right and the sent 1 is added a second time into the very column it came from, and in items where the sending runs on, a single misplacement changes every column to the left of it at once.

All that grows is the digit count and the number of carries; the way of writing is that of 3-Digit Addition. Answering from a bare expression ends here, and Addition Word Problems raises the expression out of a situation.
