- Tables of Two Sets of Data
A table gathering figures under two headings at once, one down and one across, is the material. Reading (Multiple Questions) asks for the figure in a cell and the totals of rows and columns, while Filling in the Table works three empty cells backwards from the totals. Organizing Data (Making a Table) sorts twenty numbered survey records under two headings by eye.

Because Organizing Data (Making a Table) matches and counts one record at a time, the same row gets counted twice or skipped. Asked for a count under one heading, counting the other side of that heading as well and adding, then seeing whether the two reach twenty, brings it out. Where two questions about combinations come back with matching answers, whether the combination being counted actually shifted is worth another look.
The next unit, Division (÷ 1-Digit Number), puts a column procedure rather than a set of data in front of the child. Reading Line Graphs gave up its figures to anyone who traced a line, whereas here the hand has read, worked backwards and sorted.
