What this worksheet covers
- Topic
- 2-Digit Subtraction
- Worksheet
- No Borrowing
Everything starts from copying the numbers into the column layout. The items are arranged so the ones can be taken away just as they stand, and no number is ever borrowed from the column above. This same way of subtracting carries over without change into the plain calculations, the boxed items and the word problems.

Where the two tens digits leave a difference of zero, that zero gets written into the answer as well and something unreadable such as 05 results. Looking first at whether the two tens digits match shows that the answer will be a single-digit number and that the ones digit alone needs writing down.
This opens 2-Digit Subtraction. The layout is the one memorized in 2-Digit Addition, taken over as it stands, with only the sign and the direction of the arithmetic reversed. In 1 Borrow the tens place has to be reached into for the first time.
