What this worksheet covers
- Worksheet
- Subtraction
Two numbers stand waiting to be taken away, and the equation is cleared from the front. Subtract once, then subtract again from whatever that leaves, a flow repeated through the bare calculations and Fill in the Blank. Subtracting in Order (Word Problems) reads scenes in which an amount shrinks in two goes.

In Fill in the Blank, when the box lands on the second number to be taken away, children cannot work backwards from what is left and instead subtract the two figures they can see. Fitting the result back into the equation is the quickest check. In the scene-reading items the second number to subtract simply goes unread.
Items whose signs all point the same way finish with this second lesson. As in Addition, starting from the left is enough, and only the direction has changed. From Addition and Subtraction (Add → Subtract) two signs share one equation.
