What this worksheet covers
- Worksheet
- Finding the Position
These word problems ask where a single person or object stands among others. Switching Front and Back works out the place counted from the back from the size of the line and the place counted from the front, or the other way about, while Position in Line works out one animal's place from another's together with a relative number of places ahead or behind.

In Switching Front and Back the number from the front and the number from the back each include the person, so taking the place away from the total leaves the count one short. Forget to put that 1 back and the answer sits one too low. Adding the place to the answer and subtracting one should give the size of the line again.
The unit opens with this lesson. Once the counting of places has been settled here, Finding the Number of People in Between turns to counting those who stand between two of them.
