- Elapsed Time
Only events starting before midday and finishing after it are taken up here. That time carries on unbroken across midday is confirmed through two kinds of word problem, one with a clock face drawn in and one without. Without the clock, the times written in the sentences are the only clue.

Given the clock face, some children count as far as midday, stop, and offer the morning part alone as the answer. Without it, the afternoon hour wears a small numeral, so subtracting one hour figure from the other brings the work to a halt. Drawing a single line at midday, splitting the stretch in two and adding the halves, cuts down both.
After restating units and calculating with durations, this lesson turns to the gap between two clock times. The grade-two Time and Duration ends here and runs on into the grade-three Time and Duration, where seconds are added.
