- Equal Sharing and Distribution Word Problems
Word problems have a scene read and everything up to the answer gathered into one expression. Dividing in Two Steps, Dividing All at Once and Adding or Removing Before Sharing Equally differ in what is prepared before the dividing, while Dividing Then Using and Multiplying Then Dividing run a division and a multiplication together. Difference of Quotients subtracts two quotients, and Combining Divisions and What Is Left and the Total After Sharing gather into one as well.

Where something is added or taken away before the dividing, the expression gets built without parentheses and the division ends up happening first. Dividing All at Once and Adding or Removing Before Sharing Equally need the adding or taking away wrapped in parentheses. Before the answer figure, whether parentheses stand in the expression box is what to look at.
The unit opens from assembling an expression with division at its center. That use of parentheses is carried straight on into Price Word Problems, where multiplying a unit price by a count becomes the center of the expression.
