Papers appear where the scene shares first and subtracts afterward, yet the expression subtracts first and shares afterward. Whether the first tier does the same operation as the event that comes first in the text is the point. Reading the two side by side is enough to catch a reversal of order.
The view of how the four operations combine survives into the word problems on percentage and per-unit quantity ahead. The next unit, Converting Compound Units, deals not with expressions but with the way of writing one quantity as a pair of units.
