- Addition with Carrying
Splitting the number being added so that ten can be made first, then putting the remainder on afterwards, is the procedure built here with single-digit sums. Every equation passes ten. Calculation settles the steps, and the same split is used again in Fill in the Blank and in Word Problems.

Forgetting the part left over after the split, and writing down only the ones digit, is the omission seen most. An answer that never reaches ten means the group has gone missing. Counting up on the fingers one at a time shifts the start by one, so the answer falls short by exactly one every time.
One lesson is all this unit holds, and single-digit arithmetic reaches its finish here. Making a ten is turned inside out in Subtraction with Borrowing, where the same idea becomes the act of breaking a ten apart.
