Crowdedness and unit price show how two quantities can be compared by dividing one by the other. From deciding which quantity counts as 1 and finding the amount that goes with it, the work widens to one-step and two-step problems in both directions, unit price from a difference, and Population Density.
Dividing the wrong way round when finding the per-unit amount stands out. If the question asks how many people per m² and the area was divided by the number of people, the unit on the answer has swapped with the one the question wanted. Working backward, children multiply where they should divide and the digits stop matching.
