What this unit covers
Leveling several numbers into a single one is the idea here. Beyond the basic move of totaling from a table and dividing by the count, the unit covers recovering the total from an average and a count, and finding the average once two groups are combined, both with a table to work from and without one.
When combining two groups, averaging the two averages again is the most frequent error. Writing (8 + 6) ÷ 2 when the groups differ in size is this pattern. Children also leave days with a value of 0 out of the count, so they divide by one less than they should.
