- Calculating the Average
Questions reading figures off a table of five weekdays, and questions with the figures merely written out in a sentence, are built so that one procedure solves both. The basic shape of totaling and dividing by the count, the shape recovering a total from an average and a count, the shape filling a gap in a table, and the shape gathering two groups into a single average are all Word Problems.

In the gap-filling questions, the average is multiplied by the count to give the whole total and that figure is written straight into the gap. Add everything including the filled figure and divide by the count, and it lands exactly on the average given. A slip there means the step of subtracting the figures for the other days is still owed.
The unit holds this one lesson, and it confirms that the procedure does not move however the material to be read changes. In Amount per Unit Quantity the same division is used to compare two quantities of different kinds.
