Fraction Subtraction and Mixed Operations worksheets for Grade 5 (Elementary School)
What this unit covers
Subtraction with unlike denominators moves from proper fractions to improper fractions and mixed numbers, including the cases that borrow. Three fractions subtracted in a row, mixed addition and subtraction with parentheses, and adding or subtracting a decimal and a fraction are lined up, while the word problems cover finding a difference and working backward.
Borrowing with mixed numbers, taking 1 from the whole-number part and then forgetting to add the denominator to the numerator, is the standard error. In mixed operations, when a subtraction stands in front of the parentheses, children add the second term inside as well, and the answer comes out larger by twice that term.
