Enlargement and Reduction worksheets for Grade 6 (Elementary School)

Enlargement and Reduction

What this unit covers

This unit deals with pairs of figures that differ in size but not in shape. The properties of an enlargement and a reduction, equal ratios between corresponding sides and unchanged angles, are confirmed first, and the work moves to Finding the Scale, Actual Length from a Scale Drawing, and Converting Actual Length to the Scale Drawing.

Answering an actual length in cm without converting to m or km is the standard error, leaving the answer three places off. Dividing the actual length by the length on the drawing the wrong way round when finding the scale also appears. Some answers scale the angles as well, giving 120 degrees for a 60-degree angle in a double-size enlargement.

Comparing one quantity against another now gives way to comparing one figure against another. The ratio-value calculation settled in Ratio and Its Uses is the clue that makes it possible. The unit that follows, Investigating Data, leaves figures behind again and moves to organizing a collection of numbers instead.
