- Adding Fractions with the Same Denominator
The denominator stays put and the numerators are added. Work opens with Calculation, where two proper fractions of the same denominator stand together, moves to Fill in the Blank, where one numerator becomes a box, and goes on to Word Problems, asking for a combined or an increased quantity. Denominators run from 2 to 12, and no item calls for reducing.

Where the numerators total the denominator, the writing stops there. An answer in this lesson is either a fraction whose numerator is below its denominator or a whole number paired with a fraction. A fraction with the larger numerator left in the answer box has not been finished. Since only the numerator becomes a box in Fill in the Blank, the denominator is never moved.
First of the seven lessons that make up Fractions. In Subtracting Fractions with the Same Denominator the numerators go the other way, and fractions whose numerator exceeds the denominator stand in the expressions alongside proper ones.
