Choosing figures by eye gives way to writing figures down and adding them. A rectangle is labeled only with its height and its width, so the opposite sides have to be copied out to make four before anything is added, while a square has one side added four times over.

Opposite sides of a rectangle carry the same length. Get that wrong and the height figure is copied onto the neighboring side as well, all four are added as though equal, and the width drops out of the equation altogether. Checking that both of the figures printed on the diagram appear in the equation exposes the miscopying.
This closes Triangles and Quadrilaterals. As far as Right Triangles the study was a matter of choosing figures, whereas here the sides of a chosen figure are worked with, which is the entrance to describing a figure with numbers.
