Special shapes are picked out from among the quadrilaterals by eye. Finding Squares and Finding Rectangles are set separately: a rectangle is chosen on whether all four corners are right angles, and a square on that plus whether the four sides come to the same length.

Four right angles are not enough for a square unless the four sides match as well. Miss that and a slightly elongated rectangle joins the squares. Asked for squares, a child should look first at whether the height and the width carry the same figure.
Second of four lessons. To the sorting by number of sides done in Identifying Shapes, a second marker is added, whether a corner is a right angle, and Right Triangles carries that marker over to triangles.
