- Reading Tables
The Reading (Multiple Questions) shape is as it was in the previous lesson, and the figures that had been visible as bar heights become figures in a table. Reading Tables has headings for the categories running across one row with the counts of people directly beneath, and four things are answered: one figure, two of them combined, the gap between two, and the total of them all.

Because the headings and the counts merely sit one above the other, reading the figure next door leaves the look of the table undisturbed. Run a finger down from the heading asked about and check that the written figure is directly below it. One place out and the sums and differences that use that figure go out with it.
Moving to and fro between a graph and a table completes the hand for pulling figures out of a set of data. Tree-Planting Problems puts the wording of a scene, rather than a set of data, in front of the child.
