- Decimal × Whole Number (Word Problems)
Word problems give the weight of 1 m or the length of one item as a decimal and ask for so many of them. 1 Decimal Place×1-Digit and 2 Decimal Places×1-Digit multiply by a single-digit whole number, while 1 Decimal Place×2-Digit and 2 Decimal Places×2-Digit multiply by a two-digit one. There is no expression box, and only the answer figure is written.

Where a two-digit whole number multiplies, the column layout produces two rows of partial product. Answers appear written from the row for the ones alone, with the row for the tens never added in. A multiplier of ten or more must leave an answer at least ten times the decimal being multiplied, and comparing the two brings the missing addition out.
Decimal × Whole Number (Calculations) supplied the expression, whereas in this lesson the multiplication is built by the child out of a scene. In Decimal ÷ Whole Number (Basics) the operation moves to dividing.
