What this worksheet covers
- Worksheet
- Addition
The places are lined up vertically and then added. Basics (Column Calculation) stacks numbers as far as the hundredths, Different Number of Digits (Column Calculation) brings two numbers whose right-hand ends do not match, and Up to 3 Decimal Places (Column Calculation) goes one place finer. The same range is gone round in single-line working, Fill in the Blank works back to the figure for the box, and Word Problems combines quantities.

Where two or more carries run on, zeros can end up standing together at the right-hand end of the answer. In this lesson those zeros are cleared away before it is written. A zero left in the rightmost position after the point means the tidying is not done. Some items come out as exact whole numbers, letting the point go as well.
The order of the places confirmed in Structure of Decimals becomes the vertical order of the column layout itself. In Subtraction a place has to be borrowed from above, and returning the answer to the original number becomes available as a check.
