What this worksheet covers
- Worksheet
- Adding Fractions (Word Problems and Applications)
Scenes finding a combined amount, and scenes tracing a starting amount backward from an amount used and an amount left, are solved by adding fractions with unlike denominators, as Word Problems. Pairs where one denominator is a multiple of the other stand beside pairs where it is not, and pairs including mixed numbers.

In the backward scenes, papers come in that set up a subtraction instead of an addition. The starting amount is always larger than the amount used and larger than the amount left, so an answer smaller than either one means addition and subtraction have changed places.
The adding itself was complete by Adding Mixed Numbers (Unlike Denominators), and here what gets settled from the writing is which amounts to add. Adding 3 Fractions, placed last, raises the count of numbers added from two to three.
