Units of Volume
A-1Conversion
What this worksheet covers
Grade 6 (Elementary School) / The Structure of Measurement Units / Units of Volume
The same capacity gets swapped for another name, in conversions. There is a group tying cm³ to L, dL and kL, a group tying m³ to the other units, and the pair kL and L, and every group is traced in both the climbing and the dropping direction. One word problem handling scenes of drinks or a water tank is included.
1 L is 1000 cm³, but 1 dL is 100 cm³. Use the same 1000 in an expression where dL is involved and the answer slips to ten times or a tenth. It can be checked by the relation that the same capacity restated in dL is ten times the figure restated in L.
This is the first of four lessons in the unit, and it handles the restating of capacity alone. In Units of Weight the same method moves to another quantity, running between units as far apart as mg and t.
