What this worksheet covers
- Topic
- Subtraction up to 10
- Worksheet
- Subtraction up to 5
Two kinds of situation are handled with small numbers no greater than five: finding what is left after some are handed out, and setting two amounts side by side to find the difference. Calculation makes the equation familiar first, then Fill in the Blank asks for the missing number, and the work moves on to Word Problems (with Pictures), which give a picture to lean on, and to Word Problems in words only.

Asked what is left, children add instead and write an answer bigger than the number they started from. This shows up most often in problems about a difference, and an answer larger than either of the two numbers is the sign that addition has taken place.
The range that was counted together in Addition up to 10 is now looked at from the side of taking away, with nothing changed but the direction. In Subtraction up to 10, which comes next, the numbers involved grow one size larger.
