What this worksheet covers
- Topic
- Length (cm, mm, m)
- Worksheet
- Subtraction (Same Units)
Subtraction of lengths opens here. Both sides carry the same unit, cm against cm and m against m, so nothing but the sizes has to be weighed. Bare equations stand alongside word problems in which a scene of length being taken away has to be read.

Setting down an equation without first deciding which of the two lengths is greater turns the subtraction round. Checking that the shorter is being taken from the longer settles it. Writing the equation in the order the figures happen to appear in the text also flips the direction.
The direction has turned, but the stance of getting the units to agree before calculating is inherited from Addition (Same Units). In Subtraction (Different Units) the length being subtracted from carries two units.
