- Decimal ÷ Whole Number (Basics)
Four shapes, the column layout, horizontal working, boxed items and word problems, divide a decimal by a whole number. The column items handle numbers as far as the thousandths, the horizontal working splits into items solvable in the head and harder three-digit ones, and the word problems are scenes of equal sharing.

Multiply the quotient found back by the divisor and it lands exactly on the number that was divided. That is the surest test of all. Where the quotient carries a 0 in one of its middle places, items appear with that 0 left unwritten and the next digit closed up, leaving the answer a digit short. The same slip happens in shapes whose quotient falls below one.
Multiplication has been covered once through, and dividing starts from this lesson. What is handled here are only expressions that come out evenly in the end. Expressions where something is left over belong to Division of Decimals with Remainders.
