Three numbers stand in the expression. Same Operation has all three added or all three subtracted, while Mixed Operations brings one of each. Removing Trailing Zeros tidies the right-hand end of the answer. Everything is single-line working, and Fill in the Blank, with one figure replaced by a box, is added.

Mixed Operations draws items where the last two are gathered first and then subtracted. Because an expression is worked from the left in order, an answer that ends with an addition is larger than the figure reached partway and one that ends with a subtraction is smaller. Setting the figure from the first two beside the written answer tells which of the two directions the work finished in.

The next unit, Division by 2-Digit Numbers, brings a two-digit divisor and adds the approach of estimating a quotient before confirming it. As far as Subtraction only two numbers stood in an expression, whereas here a figure the child produced was used again inside one.
