What this worksheet covers
- Worksheet
- Adding Improper Fractions
Fractions larger than 1 are added and the answer is always written as a mixed number, as Calculation. Finding a common denominator and then adding the numerators does not change, and the sum of the numerators after that passes the denominator. Fill in the Blank, which shows the sum in mixed-number form, is included.

The answer box gets filled at the stage where the numerators have just been added, with a numerator larger than the denominator. Every answer in this lesson carries a whole-number part, so a numerator still standing above its denominator means one more rewriting is owed.
All that is added is tidying the answer into mixed-number form, and finding a common denominator runs as it did in Adding Proper Fractions (Unlike Denominators). A whole-number part on the numbers before the adding arrives with Adding Mixed Numbers (Unlike Denominators), which follows.
