Units of Weight
A-2Conversion
What this worksheet covers
Grade 6 (Elementary School) / The Structure of Measurement Units / Units of Weight
The names given to a weight get swapped. Work opens from conversions running between g and mg by a thousand times and a thousandth, handles g with kg, kg with t, and groups two or more steps apart in both directions, and adds word problems drawn from foods, animals and vehicles.
In a group two steps apart, the expression multiplies by a thousand only once. Because mg, g, kg and t stand a thousand apart from one another, count how many steps were climbed or descended, and if the zeros have moved three at a time for that many steps, nothing stopped halfway.
The staircase from g up to t is even, a thousand at every step. That evenness breaks, the multiplier becomes sixty and fractional forms mix in, in Units of Time, which waits after this.
