What this worksheet covers
- Topic
- Addition up to 10
- Worksheet
- Sums up to 5
Every sum here stays at 5 or below. The same small numbers turn up in four formats: Calculation, where only the equation is given, Fill in the Blank, where a number has to be found for the box, Word Problems (with Pictures), where the situation is read off a picture, and Word Problems, given in words alone.

Because answers in this range can be reached on the fingers, a count that starts one place off leaves the answer one too high or one too low. When the box sits on the left of the equals sign, children add the two numbers they can see, and the number they write in the box ends up bigger than the answer on the right.
This is the first lesson of all, the point where work with number begins. Sums up to 10 keeps the four formats untouched and changes only how large the numbers get, and the way of counting built here is carried straight forward.
