- Units (cm and mm)
Finer marks, ten of them to every cm, make their entrance. Unit conversion is the center of the lesson, restating a length given in cm as mm or splitting a figure in mm into cm and mm, and some items have the ruler read and answered in both units at once.

Restating 6 cm as 60 mm shows the rule: the cm figure is multiplied by ten. Skipping that ten and answering 6 mm is the first stumble, and going in this direction the converted figure must come out larger than the original. In the other direction the leftover mm ends up written on the cm side.
Second of nine lessons, and the place where the relation joining two units is picked up. Marks that were only read off in Ways to Compare and Units now become material for restating a number.
