- Reading a Scale
Weight is read from where the needle has come to rest. Three faces appear, 1kg, 2kg and 4kg, each able to weigh up to a different amount, and the smallest is answered in g alone while the two larger ones are answered in kg and g. Nothing is calculated.

The stumble is carrying the size of one item's divisions straight over to the next. Hold the figure read against the part of the face where the needle has stopped. A needle at exactly halfway whose answer is not half of what the scale weighs shows the reading was taken wrongly.
From Units (kg and g) onward the faces disappear and the material becomes the figure that was read. This lesson is the entrance to holding in the hand, as a figure, a weight the eye cannot judge.
