Where the answer stays inside three digits, its hundreds digit stands one higher than the hundreds digit of the original number. If it has not moved, the 1 sent up from the tens has gone missing. Boxed items also produce answers matched at the ones with a discrepancy left standing in the tens.
From Subtraction (No Borrowing) the direction turns, and a two-digit or three-digit number is taken away from a three-digit one. The run of piling on carries stops here, after three lessons of addition.
