- Subtraction (Different Units)
A capacity set down across two units, L with dL, has another capacity taken from it. In the equations the units are matched and then subtracted; in Word Problems the scene is read first and the same shape assembled. Some of the amounts taken away are given in L alone, and every item comes out without anything being broken up.

Where the small units cancel to zero, that zero goes unwritten and only the large unit figure is offered. Setting the figures against the original equation brings it out. Elsewhere the amount taken away carries a dL figure that never gets subtracted, and the dL of the original is copied into the answer untouched.
Capacity (L, dL, mL) has only Subtraction (With Borrowing) left to go. Matching the units before subtracting is what Subtraction (Same Units) already established, and all that has grown is the writing, now spread across two units.
